What happened
Homer Glen suspended use of Flock automated license plate reader cameras located within the village. The pause remains in place while the Will County Sheriff’s Office investigates alleged policy violations and the village reviews the Sheriff’s ALPR protocol.
The village cited limited publicly available information and the privacy issues involved. The referenced allegation is not a final finding, and the public notice did not announce a contract termination, replacement vendor or implementation timetable.

Why local leaders should care
This is bigger than camera performance. Municipalities need operating controls that prevent unauthorized searches, connect every search to an approved purpose or case, flag unusual activity promptly and support independent review. An audit trail offers little protection if no one reviews it until after a complaint.
Homer Glen could restore the current system, strengthen its policy or consider another approach. The public record does not yet establish which direction the village will choose.
